Today will be a special memory in all of our hearts...and rightly so...for it is a day when we celebrate your achievements-both collectively and individually...it is your day in the sun...well deserved and well earned... Today is a day for reflection...as a parent, it doesn't seem like long ago when I brought a scared young boy to his first day in our educational system...so full of wonder...a combination of awe and wonder...Now, today, he stands before me well on his way to manhood and what I presume to be an asset to society...so full of confidence...a combination of maturity and excitement... Overall, it has been a pleasure and a rewarding experience to watch your growth from ABC's to dangling participles... from one plus two to what does "x" equal...from skinned knees on the playground to broken bones and torn ligaments in school championship meets...first crushes, first dances, first loves...social interaction intermingled with scientific wonders and geographical locations... A long time ago, I told you I would believe in you until you learned to believe in yourself...it appears you have done that...but now I will keep believing in you because even as adults we never grow too old to need a shoulder to lean on or someone to simply love us through another day... In closing, I feel the best advice I can offer to you are lyrics from a song I have implanted in my heart...I am sure LeeAnn Womack is not on most of your top ten lists, but for this moment in time, please listen to the words and take them with you in your heart wherever you may go... "I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean... Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens...... Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance... And when you get the chance to sit it out or dance... ...Dance...I hope you dance..." Congratulations to each of you... ...and may the best be yet to come... |
