Range Competition 830 Pierrefonds'Official Regional Range Competition was held on Sunday March 7, 1999 at the LHQ of 867 Ile Perrot. Of the West Island Squadron's participating, 803 came in xth place. RCACS 1 West Montréal Visit On Tuesday March 16, 1999, a few senior cadets and the Commanding Officer of RCACS 1 West Montréal participated in 803's regular training night, as if they were part of our squadron. This visit is a follow-up to suggestions made by cadets at the Fall Regional Meeting to visit the other squadrons in the region to get an idea of how they function. A return visit will be paid to RCACS 1 Westmount in the up-coming weeks. Perhaps this will spark interest from other squadrons to reciprocate. Happy Saint Patrick's Day On Sunday March 14, 1999, the squadron participated in the downtown St-Patrick's Parade. Participation and transportation was organized by St-Jean Brebeuf Parrish. The coordinator from the Church was Brendan Glenane. The cadets left at 10:00 AM from LHQ (Local HeadQuarters: Riverdale High School), where they waited patiently for Section K of the parade to start marching. A 90% cadet attendance at this parade showed the squadron's Irish spirit, as this is a yearly event for us. Power Flying In April, we started the Familiarization Flights for the cadets in powered aircraft at Cedars Airport in St.-Lazare. The pilots are Dennis Leblanc (803’s Ground School Instructor) and Jean-Francois Bissonnette (an instructor with RCACS 690 Lakeshore, and an employee of Laurentide Aviation). We are taking a break after this week-end, but the flying will resume in mid-April with full force. |
28th Annual Ceremonial Review Well, it’s coming towards the home-stretch and the training year is coming to a close (in about 3 months), but this is the most hectic time for any air cadet squadron. Many activities are planned and preparations for the final parade, the Annual Ceremonial Review are well underway and will be held Sunday May 30, 1999 at the Dollard-des-Ormeaux Civic Centre. A meeting was held between the Project Officer (Lt. Savage) and the Annual Review Coordinator (Pam Sidhu) and several other members of the 803 team. Invitations will be mailed shortly. The Air Cadet League representative will be Mr. Lloyd MacIntyre, who has served as a Commanding Officer in various West Island squadrons and is this year's Advisor to 803 (and what a tremendous help he has been.). The Reviewing Officer will be Lt/Col Jacques Girardin. Cadet Fund-Raising Following is an updated list of the cadets who have raised the minimum $150.00 as their fund-raising goal for the year. Congratulations!!! |
Effective Speaking Contest Five candidates representing their respective squadrons participated in this official regional activity, which was held on Sunday February 28, 1999 in Lasalle. The cadets are judged in two parts, the first being the 5 to 6 minute prepared speeches from a list of topics offered each year by the Air Cadet League of Canada. The second part is a 3 minute impromptu speech, the topic of which is selected by the judges and given to the cadets only moments before their turn. This year the topic was "Is Good News a Source of Energy". Special thanks to the Toastmasters, Bill Spears and his team of judges: Guy Morin, Roselyn Small, Andrew Bochenek, and, O’Brien Bourne. |

Family Awareness Day As is customary each year, the families of our cadets are invited to a special presentation at approximately the halfway mark. This is so that the cadets can showcase their acquired talents to their parents. It also give the parents an indication of how far their child has progressed, and can be used as a measuring stick for their final showcase which will be held at the Dollard-des-Ormeaux Civic Centre on May 30, 1999 at the Annual Ceremonial Review. During the ceremony, 2 parents were selected to perform the Inspection alonside the Commanding Officer and the Chairperson. This is to give them a VIP outlook on the ceremony. A promotion was handed out to F/Sgt D Birdi who now holds the rank of Warrant Officer, 2nd Class. WO2 H Farag retired as a cadet. This is a pivotal moment in a cadets career, as he turns 19 years of age, and leaves behind 6 years of his teenage years. Hany was a good cadet and he will be missed around the squadron. Much success on his future endeavours. Winterlude in Canada's Capital On February 20, 1999, early Saturday morning, cadets of 803 were already on their way to Ottawa. A day of indoor and outdoor activities were awaiting them at the yearly Winterlude festivities. Ice-carving, obstacle races, London after Dark, Worl tour of famous landmarks, interactive displays and adventures, were only a few of the events in which the cadets participated. Everyone returned exhausted and happy late that night. |
