Hotaru is very weak in her normal state, and has the power to heal people's injuries. She attended Mugen Gakuen before its destruction, where her father taught. Frail and fragile, Hotaru had no friends until she met Chibiusa. Her father was under the control of aliens, and at night he created seeds to plant into inanimate objects that would take the pure hearts out of people. He was raising his daughter to become the Messiah to destroy the world, and she was also under the control of aliens. She quickly became an adult and was about to use her powers to destroy the world, but Sailor Moon saved her and together they fought the aliens. At the end of the fight, she reverted to an infant, so she couldn't misuse her powers of destruction. At the beginning of the 5th season, she was given to the other Outers, who raised her. She quickly matured into the age she was supposed to be, and gave Sailor Moon a power up. As Sailor Saturn, she has the power to destroy the world, and her awakening as a Sailor Senshi foretold the end of the world. She is much stronger as a Senshi, and always has a calm look on her face during fights. She is very unsympathetic, and she knows her true job is to kill everything on the planet to create the "Silence." The staff she carries is called the Silence Glaive, and it is the source of her power.
