Reader Road Ghost Hunt
August 2004
We took many photos on this Ghost Hunt. It was a clear sunny day. About
12 of us all together. My sister brought her EMF detector and although she did
get some readings, we didn't really get much on film that day. A few mists and
one very odd photo of a woman's face image in a tree. This is the very best ghost
image I have ever seen. For those of you that do not know the stories behind
Reder Road, then keep reading: Elizabeth Wilson, the ghost that some people
believe haunts Reder Road is said to have been buried in Ross Cemetery.
Reder
Road has been around sense the early 1900's. A stretch of about 5 miles
as a connection from Griffith to Merrillville. Today it is barred off from
any visitors. Now, over grown with trees, shrubs, and only a grassy
trail
left behind on the pavement. There are many stories of paranormal activity
originating from this stretch of road. I myself, have traveled it many times,
before it was closed off in the late 1980's. Even back then
it gave
me a sense of mysterious and eerie feelings. I don't think anyone would
have wanted to be stranded on that road at night. A scene of many crimes
and a final drop for the unfortunate. One of the legends that is connected
to this road is the unfortunate accident and death of Elizabeth Wilson.
The beliefs of many,is that in 1955 she and her boyfriend were driving home
from a high school dance in the midst of a thunderstorm. The boy was driving
at an excessive speed and crashed into the watery swamp ditch. Elizabeth
was thrown from the vehicle face down into the water of the ditch and drowned.
Since her untimely death there has been many sightings of her ghostly spirit
roaming Reder Road. In the late 1970's a young boy driving down Reder Road
stopped to offer a young woman a ride. When she excepted and got into his car she,
seemed cold, so he offered her his jacket. She proceeded to give him directions
to her home near Reder Road. As they approached Ross Cemetery she asked
him to stop. He then got out of his car to open her door, to his amazement
she had disappeared, vanished, gone! Frightened and scared he proceeded
on his way home. His curiosity got the best
of him
and the following day he went back to investigate his eerie experience.
He went back to the exact place where she disappeared and looked around
and decided to enter the near by Ross Cemetery. There upon a grave marked
Elizabeth Wilson, lay his jacket. People have captured many ghostly images
on film in this area. Orbs, echo mists, and vortexes. Not to mention experiencing
the VERY eerie feelings and sensations one gets when visiting Reder Road.
Below are a few photos we took on our Ghostly Hunt to Reader Road.
