BEHOLD the future of fire lookouts! The Northwest's contribution to lookout designs, the OCTAGON cab has also been used on the new Black Butte tower(Deschutes NF), the new SiSi tower(Mt. Hood N.F) and is planned for the new Calamity Bu tower(Malheur N.F.) Each of the four legs are monsterous treated Douglas Fir poles. Thes legs are tied together with an impressive spiderweb of steel cables. Your great-great...grandchildren might staff this tower. Location:16 miles SE of Lapine||Bend/Deschutes N.F., Bend/Fort Rock R.D. Turn east on Finley butte Rd., Hwy 20. Go 9.5 miles, turn left of Forest Rd 2220, the Spring Bu Rd. Go 6 miles to an intersection, turn right for a very short distance then left, uphill where the Spring Butte sign is.
