The Plain of the Swampland or Depressão Pantaneira or Swampland simply possesses altitudes that vary, on the average, of 100 to 200 meters. It is a prolongation, for the north, of the Plain of Chaco (Paraguay). He/she comes depressed, surrounded by cuestas and formations soerguidas. The highest parts, that they don't suffer floods, they receive the name of " Mountain ranges ", the lowest parts, subject to floods, they receive name of " Bays or Wide " (where they are found the Lagoas Xaraiés). Breaking up with the monotony of the relief, they appear isolated hills, as it is the case of the Massive of Urucum, in the proximities of the city of Corumbá. They were identified several patterns of Swamplands, with structural, pedologic, morphologic aspects, hidrológicos and of vegetable covering.
The landscape is formed by quite peculiar features and of denomination typically regional:
- the " bays " are temporary or permanent ponds, in
dimensions and varied ways, very frequent in the Swampland of Nhecolândia;
- the " mountain ranges " are sandy, narrow and prolonged elevations, covered
with vegetation of closed with height of up to two meters;
- the " vazantes " is at that time natural canals of the water of the enchentes,
with characteristics of intermittent fluvial course, with several kilometers of extension.
- the " corixos " is small perennial fluvial courses, of own bed, that tie
" contiguous bays ".
