Zidane is a kind, compassionate soul who loves flirtation and fun. He is a member of Tantalus, a troupe of actors and part-time thieves. He has lived with Baku, Tantalus' chief, for as long as he can remember. While Baku was not a kind or compassionate father, he is the only father Zidane knows.
When the game begins, Zidane travels to Alexandria to kidnap Princess Garnet. To his surprise, he discovers Garnet wants to be kidnapped! With Garnet, Pluto Knight Steiner, and absent-minded magician Vivi, Zidane sets out on the adventure of his life. Throughout his journey, Zidane makes many more friends and falls in love with Princess Garnet, who reluctantly returns his affections.
Zidane later discovers that he is a creature called a Genome. Genomes were created by the inhabitants of Terra, a parasitic planet. According to Terra's plan, Gaia would be absorbed and filled with Genomes, who would in turn become vessels for Terran souls. Garland, the plan's chief engineer, created Zidane as the strongest Genome, meant to replace Kuja. However, Kuja did not like the idea of being second, so he kidnapped young Zidane and dropped him off on Gaia, where Zidane has lived ever since. |
