"The only dependable thing about the future is uncertainty."
A strange, blue-skinned man of great strength, Amarant is always a kind of misfit. He works as a misfit in Treno until a young thief, Zidane, tricks him into becoming wanted by the police. Amarant, or "The Flaming Amarant," as he is known to his few friends, leaves Treno and becomes a bounty hunter.

Along with Lani, he is hired by Brahne to retrieve Garnet's pendant. Amarant, despite being an arrogant loner, believes in playing by the rules. When Lani takes the pendant by unfair means, Amarant steals it back and challenges Zidane to a fight for it.

After being bested by Zidane, Amarant asks him to kill him. Zidane refuses, much to Amarant's confusion. He decides to go along with Zidane to discover the secret of his strength.

At Ipsen's Castle, Amarant, believing it is better to work alone than with others, boasts that he alone can beat Zidane to the end. He does, but later falls and gets hurt, and is unable to leave. Zidane rescues him, teaching Amarant that sometimes it is good to rely on others.
