Journal 4: What is Faith?
1. Key Idea
The key idea of this section was faith and the many definitions of it. We learned that faith can be defined many ways like the Catholic definition, "an intellectual assent to a loving God and His revelation," or we can say that faith is a virtue, or that faith is certain. The two main parts of faith that we learned about were faith and reason and we learned about their extremes, radicalism and nihilism. Radicalism is beliefs but no reason, and nihilism is reason with no beliefs. We must follow the middle groung, faith, the Golden Way.

2. Three things I want to remember
    1. Faith is the Golden Way. Faith is the perfect balance between reason and beliefs. Faith is the middle ground between nihilism and radicalism, both of which are extremes of beliefs and faith, nihilism being all reason, no beliefs, and radiaclism being all beliefs with no reason.
    2. The seven descriptions of faith. Faith is a grace, faith is free human response, faith is a risk, faith is reasonable, faith is certain, faith seeks understanding, and faith is a virtue. I believe that knowing these can help me use faith to my advantage, enhancing my spiritual life and understanding of God's ways. These seven descriptions of faith show its diversity and how faith can be appreciated by everyone.
    3. The Three Theological Virtues. Besides being essential to our religion, the three theological virtues, faith, hope, and love aid us in living a quality life. However, these virtues do not come for free. one must practice to fully appreciate these three virtues.

4. Is my self-proclaimed "faith" really faith or am I deluding myself into believing that it is faith?

5. To make myself a better person, I think that I should develop the four cardinal virtues, justice, prudence, temperence, and fortitude as well as the three theological virtues, faith, hope and love.
