Mornington Peninsula

An easy walk taking about 5 - 6 hours. Very little in the way of hills and some picturesque country with good views of nearby hills from time to time. The forest is very nice.

A well kept secret and not much wilderness left if any but the coastline is rugged and dramatic on the Western Port Bay Side from Pt Leo South and the bushland remaining is quite special.

It is possible to walk from Dromana on Port Phillip Bay to Western Port Bay (30 km) but I have only walked from Baldry Crossing (Green's Bush) to Cape Schank

Baldry Crossing - Cape Schank 14 km

Some wild country is soon encountered amongst messmate stringybark forest tainted with green lichens and manna gums with a bracken - grass tree understorey.

From Main Creek, the walk to Bushrangers Bay is amongst coastal tea tree forest and banksia forest. Bushrangers Bay is a great spot for a picnic but dangerous for swimming because of cross rips. The Coastline here is rocky with sandstone cliffs and great little rocky shoals. A view to Cape Schank and Pulpit Rock is also rewarding.

From Bushrangers Bay, Cape Schank is only 2 km to walk amongst the tops of Western Port Bay Cliffs of about 200m height. Lovely!

Flinders Back Beach (Mushroom Reef) to Flinders Pier via West Head

About an hour

A lovely coastal trek with minor scrambling best done at low tide. A tricky small wave break platform is used to descend back to the main rocky platform on the tip of the head.

Shoreham to Flinders 5km Beach Walk

On even busy days you can get out of reach from the crowds and even the dogs that people bring on to beaches to help the Victorian Government fully exterminate the nasty native beach dune nesting birds. Bring in the Starlings and the Blackbirds. 1
