Day 12 - Dookanelly to Possum Springs

Having been pestered by possums at Gringer Ck we were a little concerned by the name of the next hut. In the night I could here feral tom-cats calling out. Dookanelly also is situated above a creek so we could here lovely frogs croaking all night.

Because of the cool morning my tent was covered with condensation so I had to wait until about 9:30 for the morning sun to dry it out whilst I had it draped over a grass tree. At least I could sleep during the night. Some nasty steep hills were frequent in the early part of the walk as the track bypassed a blue gum plantation before meeting the Murray river again. At lunch time I caught up with Rone on the historic "Long Gully" trestle bridge over the Murray. The bridge doesn't appear to have many years left as some of the timber appears to be falling away.

Trail bike tracks were predominant from the Harvey-Quindanning Road all the way to Possum Springs campsite. The hut is situated with a lovely outlook over the creek below. Rone did his yoga and I did some Pilates for my back so Kevin decided to head down to the creek for some meditation. Today is a milestone as 271 km is further than any single hike I had done before. At about 6 pm, John rocked up to make the hut a party of 4. From the next day I was never to see John alive again because he left the Bib track at Collie and travelled one day behind us until then.
