Fishing in Nagasaki
Yoshida Sensei (Social Studies teacher at Onizuka Jr. High) took me a fishing. We went to a town in Nagasaki called Fukushima. We kayaked a bit and stopped on this little islet in the middle of a large bay. We then fished. Mr. Yoshida's fishing technique included a special bait mixture (see pic) of little shrimpy guys, bread crumbs, and water which he proceeded to toss in great quantities into the water to lure fish. It worked. We caught 5 mackerel and 5 rudder fish in about 1 1/2 hours and gave them all to Grandma Gotou (Minako's Grandma).

Autumn leaves at Raizan Senjo Temple
Ok. My best shot at the meaning of this temple's name is 'Thunder Mountain of a Thousand Likenesses Temple'. Shinohara Sensei (head of teaching affairs at Itchu Jr. High) was very kind to take Minako and myself up to this beautiful temple nestled in the mountains. We went to see the autumn leaves, but the temple is absolutely fabulous all on its own. It houses two national treasures (no pics, sorry), and the temple buildings exemplify a beautiful, harmonious workings of man with nature (as opposed to against).

Saga International Balloon Festival 1999
This is a big, big event. People from all around (mostly Europe) come here to compete somehow. Didn't figure that one out yet. Supposedly 400,000 people attended. Pretty cool... especially the weird shaped balloons and the countless noodle vendors.

Party of 6
please...
