Key Questions For Your Pharmacist

Take advantage of your pharmacist's knowledge about medication. Be sure to ask the following questions if you are not sure of the answers yourself:

Will this over-the-counter medication interact negatively with any prescription medications I take?
Is this medication available in a cheaper, generic form that would be appropriate for me?
Does this medication come in a container that is easier to open? This question is appropriate only if no children live at home or visit regularly.

If any aspect of taking your medication confuses you, ask the pharmacist for guidance. In most cases she will know, for example, what time of day to take it, whether or not to take it with food, and what side effects to anticipate. If you notice that a prescription refill differs from what you have been receiving, be sure to ask your pharmacist why.
