my favourite sci-fi

Lexx When I watched the first episode of the first series I was enthralled. I hadn't felt this way since I saw Barbarella as a teenager. Good science fiction draws you in so that you really do feel like you are on an alien planet millions of years in the future. See my Lexx pages, which detail the background story.

Doctor Who I can remember the first ever episodes even though I was only about 5 years old. It certainly stimulated my imagination. I have compiled a guide to the stories of the first two doctors, William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton, with comments on the ones I have seen recently. What is Doctor Who?

Out of the Unknown When I was a child I was not allowed to stay up late to watch this series of sci-fi plays. I used to sneak down just to listen to the wonderful atmospheric theme tune. I tried for years to find the music. Eventually I did, and because files on the internet can disappear I have placed the file here.

It came from this site, from this page, and its URL is this.

The above file seems not to be available. Fortunately, this clip can now be found on YouTube.

Dark Skies An alien species is trying to take over earth. They are parasites that can exist inside the human brain. Similar in some ways to 'The Invaders' but better. I had vague memories of 'The Invaders' from childhood but did not know the name. All I could remember was that the aliens burned up when they got killed. I eventually tracked it down on the web, and then was surprised to see Channel 5 here in England repeating it. Channel 5 have done all 4 series of Lexx too late night.

The Prisoner Perhaps not strictly speaking science-fiction, but appeals to sci-fi fans. The idea is that there is a place (The Village) where people are taken if they have information others want or others want to be kept hidden. The Village is part prison camp, part holiday camp, and part psychiatric institution. The inmates do not know which government runs The Village; perhaps the Soviet Union, perhaps the West. They have sophisticated surveillance, crowd-control and interrogation techniques, some of them experimental. They also seem to have secret technology not allowed in the outside world.
