My Story
Breast Cancer is the most common type of cancer (other then skin cancer) among women
in the United Sates.
More then 180,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.
I was one of those women last year. Yes me a 42 year old women with 2 childern ages 11 and 4 then.
I went for my 2 year mammogram. I never felt a thing, the mammogram found a mass on my right breast. And I was sent to a surgeon with in days. A week later the lump was removed.
I was told the day after the surgery it was cancer. I was in shock because I didnt hear what the surgeon was saying after that. All I could do was look down at my 4yr old son and ask myself who was going to take care of him. I thought it was over for me.
After I cleared my head and tryed to focus on what the doctor was saying I found out I was very luck after all. I was diagnosed with intraductal carcinoma in situ.(Abnormal cells that involved only the lining of the duct. The cells have not spread outside the duct to other tissues in the breast.)
If it wasnt for my 2 year mammogram appointment I wouldnt have has any idea about the cancer that was inside of me. That scares me just thinking about it.
After a second surgery a segmental mastectomy(takin only a section of my breast) I was sent home to heal, after 2 weeks I started 5 weeks of Radiation Therapy 5 days a week. Then I was put on Tamoxifen for the next 5 to 6 years. Just went for one of my check ups and Iam still cancer free.
I felt like I need to make this page to make other aware of breast cancer.
I will have links and lots of information here.
I want this place to be a warm and full of information for all.
