MESRINE 8/2001 1. Hi MESRINE! Why was the band formed and what led the band into the serial killer territory? Dan: Why we formed?? Because we like grindcore. (That's a good reason! -Lee) I guess the name of the band itself led us into the serial killer topic. We're a band with no political opinion and no lyrics, so the song titles are just there to put names on the songs. The whole killer thing is just something that happens to follow us, we don't really care about it, we care about our music. It's just so much easier to read the paper and name a song about some new pedophile rapist so it just happens to be a concept we adopted, maybe someday it will change but for now it suits us. We're not a lyrical band, we don't want nor need any. 2. What releases do you have and what is coming up? Dan: We got a couple cd's and some new seven inches coming up, check out our website at: www.geocities.com/mesrinegrindcore 3. Which bands would you say have influenced MESRINE in any ways? Dan: The basic grindcore leaders like old N.D. and AGOTHACLES. Besides that we all have our individual influences. I'm not gonna say we're an original grind band who sound like no one else, we probably sound like tons of other bands but we just play what we want/like, so enjoy it or fuck off! heh, heh... 4. What bands out now would you recommend? Dan: I don't know... I listen to all kinds of stuff from AC/DC to TANKARD to REGURGITATE to DISCHARGE to MOTORHEAD ETC..... I think this is a personal tastes question and why would I tell other people what to listen?? (I don't know, but feel free to plug some bands that deserve some attention! -Lee) Listen to CELINE DILON if you like it I don't give a shit. 5. Your favorite movies? Did you like Blair Witch 2? Have you ever seen Deranged? What did you think of those if so. Dan: I'm not a big movie fan. CHEECH AND CHONG, ELVIS GRATTON, BAD TASTE, MANIAC, ROADKILL, MY SWEET SATAN, ZOMBIE 90, VIOLENT SHIT... Anyways I think movies are usually too long and stupid. (You got that right! -Lee) I like some horror/gore + stupid comedies but no American garbage. I like stuff that makes no sense, bad actors and bad scenarios with no budget. Pretty dumb eh? (No! You've got it right on the dot! Commercial big budget flicks suck ass, the true ones are the small ones that are still about art and not about money! Fuck Hollywood! Hey if you like stupid movies then you'll love mine, hahaha! -Lee) 6. Describe the perfect woman. Dan: One with my dick in her mouth sounds pretty good. 7. Your top 5 favorite releases. Dan: Impossible to answer this question. If you're talking about grindcore then maybe I'd say N.D. scum + f.e.t.o., AGOTHACLES split with RIEK BOOIS + Razor sharp daggers, BLOOD gas flames bones, IMPETIGO ultimo mondo cannibale + horror of the zombies, CARCASS 2 first lp's, ASSUCK old stuff, etc whatever......So much stuff so many styles of music. My fave band is AC/DC, so I guess I'm an idiot because of that...oh well...sorry. 8. What is life like for you? Dan: Crap, shit, boring, meaningless, uneventful, suicidal, depressive and dull. (Talk to your doctor about Paxil! Don't go starting a black metal band on me now! -Lee) 9. Are you infatuated with death? Is the macabre a fascination for you? How would you describe dark art's role in your life/interests? Dan: No not really. The only interests we have in macabre is the band called MACABRE. Well sure I guess we're into macabre issues like rape, mutilation, murder, pedophiles, kidnappings, arsenists, etc... Just anything crazy and bizarre shit people might do to themselves, others or society itself. But I wouldn't say it has an influence in our lives that would be insane!
