DECAY 12/2001 1. How are you Ville? Present DECAY please and why you make such music! Ville: I'm ok... DECAY is "brutally sickening gutgrind with elements of gore and morbid barbarism"... or something like that... Reason... This kind of musick is the only kind that makes me happy. (Me too! -Lee) 2. You did a split tape with DISSECTED from Greece, how did you like that band? What releases do you h ave coming up and how do you think of the other bands you're doing splits with? Ville: I wanted to a split with them because they insisted on some interesting points, and they were DIY, like I. The split sucked, but it was a nice thing to do. The band itself is a interesting rather amateurish rewrite of early grindcore CARCASS. I don't listen to their demos anymore, but I did still when we made that split. The following splits with CAUTERIZED and KRAANIUM and others will be better, in all ways. CAUTERIZED is great grindcore, but they've been pretty much dead lately, no responses to emails etc. As of yet I've never heard KRAANIUM, but it's supposed to be somekind of mix of grind, death and gore. I'll make a online split with both of these bands. Hopefully we'll make a second split with DISSECTED next year, and it will be released in tape format on Death Force records, I think. Might be that there will be more bands on that one, not just DECAY and DISSECTED... Are you into doing splits of simekind with your GROSS? 3. So is Finland still completely overrun with little Black Metal posers stinking up the place, or have you killed them all? Do you ever want to burn a church to seek vengeance for the extinction of trolls and orcs? Ville: No. Black metal is dead. (Hooray! -Lee) Death metal is taking its place. No common metal buyers admit this, but after couple years it's too far to be denied. Old stuff is coming back... though... grindcore isn't still accepted too well... 4. How do you like the gore grind scene now? What bands are your favorites? Is there a decent scene for gore grind in Finland? Ville: Our goregrind scene in Finland is pretty much like MORBID SAVOURING & DECAY as far as I know... PUS is dead, to the best of my knowledge. The global goregrind scene is birthing tons of new bands that appear and disappear after a moment. Overal it has evolved to more extreme forms lately, and I like it. I guess it's ok. But still it makes me wonder with smile... only the simpliest bands get signed... while death metal (which is on rise as I said before) requires "complexity" and "density"... Maybe it's this "old is a good as new" shit... Simplified CARCASS. (Yeah the beauty of gore grind is that it's the sickest musick ever, but easy to make! You just need animalistic rage and a love for depraved imagery. -Lee) 5. What are some of your favorite movies? Ville: Conan the Barbarian, Fight Club, John Carpenter's Vampires, Braveheart... Got bored to gore flicks months ago... 6. Which is better for you, a drum machine or a real drummer and why? Ville: Human is "more varied" and "more in the mood". But it's clumbsy, slow, inacurate and weak. I will stay with programmed drums for a long time more. They don't fuck up. I mean... Finnish drummers fucking SUCK!!! The only human drummer I praise anywhere is Guillermo of DISGORGE (Mexico)! 7. Name your top 5 favorite releases. Ville: Well... for now... In no order: DISGORGE - Chronic Corpora Infest, DEAD INFECTION - World Full Of Remains, SEPSISM - Severe Carnal Butchery, IMMOLATION - Close To A World Far Below and NIGHTWISH - Wishmaster... yup. 8. Stealing one of your interview questions, what kind of person are you in real life? Ville: Lonely, isolated, melancholic, harsh, shy... unpleasant to be around to most people. (I thought in Finland everyone was dancing around with big happy smiles!? -Lee) 9. Why did you stop your webzine? Do you think you could ever update it anyway? Hey that TARTOPOIL band sounds sick! Can I get their E-mail and address from you?! Ville: I got bored. Bands didn't answer my inties. I got no promo material. I bought almost everything I reviewed. And no one even read the damn thing... (I did! But I didn't find out about it until after it died! You have to give things time for people to recognize! Hear that grinders? Fucking support the bands and the scene! Read the interviews if you think you represent! -Lee) About TARTOPOIL... No... sorry... "TARTOPOIL, 52 rue E. Zola, 47000 AGEN, FRANCE" is all I can give you. I don't know their email address. 10. What releases do you have planned for DECAY in the future? Ville: Splits, second full length (on a LABEL!!!)... and multiple appearances in compilations... of most of which of course I'm not aware of... 11. What are the advantages of doing a one man band? Ville: No one disaggrees. Hahaha... That's about it though... 12. Okay thanks Ville! Keep grinding and goring dawg. Ville: The same! You rule!!! (Thanks! -Lee) INTERVIEWS |
