July 29, 2004 Well, Donkey Konga is out in the stores, and a new game involving the bongos is already in the works. Is it just me, or do all the other fans want to see the true continuation of the Donkey Kong series that we so desperately crave? Donkey Kong and his pals have made tons of appearances recently including re-releases of his older games on Gameboy Advance, and multi-player action in Mario Kart and Golf. But when you get right down to it, Donkey Kong hasn't had a real, one player adventure in ages. . . not since Donkey Kong 64! Donkey Kong 64 wasn't one of my personal favourites, but it introduced some very interesting and likeable characters such as Lanky and Chunky. New concepts and aspects of the Donkey Kong series were developed as well. With Nintendo neglecting to continue with the Donkey Kong series, it isn't going to evolve in any way! The multi-player games are fun enough, but the story and characters aren't going anywhere, and the series isn't continuing. Donkey Konga probably had potential, but to all the Nintendo fans I've talked to, the concept of using actual bongos isn't at all appealing, it's more degrading. Besides, the most memorable video game experiences are usually with single player adventure games. I don't doubt that many people will disagree with me on this, but I personally think the one player adventures are largely what makes videogaming so great. When I think of videogames, I think of Ocarina of Time, and Super Mario World. When I think of playing videogames with friends and family, I think of Mario Golf and Mario Kart. Of course I love games with friends and family, but Donkey Kong already has enough of that. If Nintendo wants to make it's money's worth off of Donkey Kong, they ought to make another adventure game. That is the type of game that everyone loves, and the type that may become a timeless classics. Sure some multi-players become classics, but I am doubting that Donkey Konga is going in the direction of an excellent video game. Well, that's pretty much all I have to say on this. I just can't wait until the day that a new Donkey Kong adventure comes out, and a younger generation gets to experience it's captivating and light-hearted fun. I can't wait for the day when Donkey Kong gets to shine once more. |
