The brave foursome arrived at Bowsers dwelling, planning to stop his evil plan. But they came across an obstacle. They were standing on the side of a volcanic mountain with flowing lava. In the middle of one wide river of lava flow was a mesa on which Bowsers castle was set. Mamamia! exclaimed Mario, What do we do now? Thats easy, squeaked the royal adventurer, opening her parasol, Watch this. The Mario brothers and Yoshi watched Princess Peach as she climbed on top of a rock near the banks of the lava river and took a high leap. The parasol and her dress combined, she could float farther, but it was going to be a cinch for her as the heat from the lava even supported her in the air more. When the crowned beauty reached the land on which the Koopa kings castle sat, she closed her umbrella and landed softly. She stood up gracefully and turned with a wide, royal grin. See? she called to the far banks, Its a piece of cake! Cake? Yoshi perked. Thats real great! called back Mario, Now how to we get across? The princess smile disappeared and she began to stutter. After a while, she fell silent, completely clueless. Yoshi! the green dinosaur shouted as he ran a few feet away. After only a moment, Yoshi launched forward, speeding toward the edge of the flowing liquid fire. Picking up speed as he accelerated, it didnt take Yoshi long to reach the edge. And when he did, he crouched down, pounded down with his feet, and propelled himself into the air, headed toward the castle, all in only a few moments. But it soon appeared that Yoshi had gone too fast as it was clear he would soon land on the castles wall. Mamamia! cried Mario, Hell alert Bowser! But everyone watched helplessly as Yoshi shot into the stone, cracking the already corroded walls. Yet that wasnt all, as Yoshi limply began falling; Peach watched in horror as Yoshi fell on her. Oof! gasped Peach as she was pinned to the ground by the unconscious reptile, Yoshi! Get off me! I cant breath! Yoshi soon gained consciousness and dizzily rolled onto the ground. The upset princess stood up, pulled a turnip out of the rock, and beaned Yoshi in the head. The dizzy dinosaur came to his full senses when the vegetable hit him in the head. But Peach didnt have time to scold Yoshi, as a heavy thud shook the rock. Yoshi stood, and they both looked toward the castles entrance to see that the drawbridge had been lowered and Goombas were coming out, some of them going through the air with the help of their wings. Peach pulled up three turnips and knocked out three of the walking Goombas while Yoshi extended his tongue to swallow a Goomba in flight. Yoshi laid an egg holding the winged Goomba and tossed it at the other flying Goombas, bringing one of them down. The falling Goomba and the egg crushed an ordinary Goomba that had been marching below. Peach pulled up another turnip, jumped up, and threw it directly into a flying Goombas face, knocking him back into another winged Goomba close behind, thus Peach took down two Goombas with one turnip. Yoshi leaped up into the air and lunged downward upon a Goomba in flight, making the poor, brown midget flatter than a pancake. The remaining two Goombas, one with wings, continued toward Peach and Yoshi with the sole expression on their faces that they always had. With little effort, Yoshi jumped back into the air, and kicked the flying Goomba, knocking his wings off. The Goomba that was winged, landed on its back, but stood to its feet and marched just behind the other Goomba. Yoshi landed behind the small Goomba train, and Peach pulled up a turnip. At the same time, Yoshi kicked the caboose Goomba, and Princess Peach threw her turnip at the other Goomba that was leading the line. We did it! Yoshi danced. The youthful princess scowled at Yoshi, This isnt Dora the Explorer. Besides, Koopas are tougher than these short weaklings. Hey! yelled Luigi, Were still over here! We cant jump like you two! I can still jump pretty far! scoffed Mario, Just not that far. Theyre still there! a voice exclaimed behind Peach and Yoshi. The princess and the dinosaur turned back toward the entrance to see a red Koopa Troopa in front of a small squadron of green-shelled Koopa Troopas. Yoshi quickly ran toward them and hopped across them, knocking each one that he hit out of their shells. After a few moments, all of the Koopas were lying on the ground outside of their shells (wearing yellow, red polka-dotted boxers). Yoshi jumped only a short distance and plummeted down sharply, knocking all of the shells away, resounding several noises and green blurs(along with a red blur). All but two of the Koopas were knocked out. Seeing that their shells were now gone, and that most of their troop had been wiped out without a drop of sweat by the opposition, the remaining Koopas fled into the castle. Hey, guys! Peach called over to Mario and Luigi. The Mario Bros facial expressions became excited as they replied, Did you figure out a way to get us across? Yes! Peach called back, pointed to the land on which the drawbridge had been lowered upon, Walk over here and across the drawbridge! The two Italians looked at each other in disbelief, they then slapped each other for being so stupid. You didnt-a think of that? Mario exclaimed at Luigi. Um Luigi looked down at the ground in embarrassment, No. You-a dummy! Hey! Im not the chubby, spaghetti-crazed, big-nosed plumber here! I-a resemble that remark! Luigi snickered. What? Wait What did I just say? Come on, you two! Times a-wasting! Peach called. Suddenly forgetting their little dispute, the Mario brothers rushed over the land and across the drawbridge to join Peach and Yoshi. But as the two brothers reached the wooden drawbridge, the drawbridge began to be raised. Luigi leaped onto the drawbridge, and Mario, being a bit behind, grabbed the edge of the drawbridge as it rose. Peach and Yoshi looked at the castle entrance to see a Hammer Brother cranking the drawbridge up, Peach quickly went into action by weeding a turnip out of the solid ground, and strongly tossing it into the Hammer Brother. Not expecting the hurled vegetable, the Hammer Brother was easily knocked off of his feet. The drawbridge stopped moving upward and began to swiftly fall down. MAMAMIAAAA! cried Mario as the ground drew near to him. But something wrapped around his ankle and pulled him out from under the drawbridge just before it hit the ground. As the ground shook from the drawbridges strong drop, Yoshi let go of the grip his tongue had on Marios ankle to drop him on the ground before him. Oy, commented Mario dizzily. We dont have much time, Mario, come on! exclaimed Luigi as he helped Mario up and dragged him into the castle. What is going to happen next? Find out in Yoshi's Time Machine Part 3! |
