Too Much LIfe

A painting with too many colors-
Too many strokes in too many directions;
Hues and shades streak through
Leaving trails of dye
That will be covered or naked.
Shapes and sizes grow and die,
Calling attention and blending in-
Subtly muted or deeply contrasted?
Possibilities are endless.
For a struggling artist
There is only one medium you can use
And only one canvas to abuse.
Will the same picture show through in the end
And will that completed portrait be the artist's original desire?
