More Than an Iris
by Guardian Angel One

The old man's hand
Reflects on my iris
And my pupil takes in
It's magnificent beauty.

The Rosy skin clinging to bone,
With Tans and Beiges and Siennas,
Sputters about life's toils
Under the sun.

Light Aqua and Faded Jade veins
Run heedlessly like streams,
Bubble with muffled mirth,
And flow with currents of life.

Dark Lavender and Scarlet
Stand bluntly by the side
Silently symbolizing human mistakes
And the startling price we pay.

Turning my eye from life's rainbow
I am aware of beauty within us
That can only be glimpsed at
Through the hand of life itself.
