Amnesty International was founded in 1961 as an organization that works for international human rights. Amnesty International has groups working in over 20 different countries, where they campaign to rid the world of the death penalty, torture, and political killings in an attempt to ensure equal rights to all people. Amnesty International works toward this goal by lobbying, letter-writing, protesting, and organizing fund-raisers.
The organization was founded by Peter Benenson, a British lawyer who wanted to see some changes when there was no United Nations. He started Amnesty International by writing a letter in the newspaper about enforcing human rights, and so many people responded to his call that he started his the organization. Since its beginning in 1961, Amnesty International has become stronger and spread to many countries, as seen in the map at the bottom of the page.

Make Some Noise is one of Amnesty International's attempts to spread its message to the world. Make Some Noise is a project in which popular musicians travel around the world to perform concerts, raising money for Amnesty International and telling listeners how they can help change the world. The songs that the artists play at the concerts are written to bring persuade people to make a difference in the world.
Amnesty International has done many great things to make a difference in the world. One of the organization's more recent missions was to write to the U.S. government to ask for permission to conduct an investigation of treatment of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay prison. In the past, Amnesty International has campaigned against secret imprisonment in Saudi Arabia, campaigned against police brutality in Aouth Africa, and hunted down people accused of torture in Chile. These are just a few of the many campaigns that Amnesty International undertakes.

The Amnesty International Firefly Project is based in New York City and is a project in which people create art that reflects the activism of Amnesty International. This may include anything from drawings of prisons to anti-slavery posters. The Firefly Project, like Make Some Noise, is designed to spread the core message of Amnesty International to people of the world.

Amnesty International is not affilliated with any specific country, race, or religion. It is a worldwide movement and is headed by one president, who is elected democratically by an International Council.
Amnesty International illustrates faith in that its members believe that they can change the world. They believe in the fight for human rights and think that they can do something to help out. They have faith in the idea tbat someday all humans will have equal rights and will be protected under these rights. They have faith that the world can change, and they think that they can lead the fight.
