This page will be devoted to one of the most remarkable ladies ever,

Harriette Rider Swycaffer.

You were the "Other Mother" I received
the day I wed your son,
And I just want to thank you, Mom,
for the loving things you've done:
You've given me a gracious man
with whom to share my life.
You were his lovely Mother,
I am his lucky wife.
You used to pat his little head,
and now I hold his hand.
You raised in love a little boy,
and then gave me a man.

I love you both so very much!

Harriette was born in January of 1904, in Oquawka, Illinois, and died in San Diego, CA in May of 1989. The intervening years were filled with so much goodness it will be difficult to be selective!

Her parents were Mary JEMPSON (b 7/25/1862) and Norman RIDER(b 4/7/1870). Mary's parents were Ed JEMPSON (b 1823) and Margaret BIGGS (b 1834). Margaret's father was Jno. BIGGS. Norman RIDER's parents were Harriette WATSON (b 7/3/1848) and Van Rennslar RIDER (b 1837). More info at page bottom.

Harriette was a life-time credentialed K-12 teacher, but the most important thing she ever taught -- and she taught it exceedingly well -- was Unconditional Love. She taught it by giving it, and by living it.

In continuing honor of Harriette's life, I have joined a wonderful group of women who feel they can, and should, make a difference in the lives they touch. Click on the award below to visit my Diva site and find out more!

This award was presented by my Diva sisters in October of 1999.

I adopted a special fairy
from a special lady,
to watch over this special page :-)
(These fairies were hand-drawn by their creator,
so if you want one of your own, please click on the certifiate.)

Even after Harriette's eyesight failed, she always saw what was really important much more clearly than many of us "sighted" folk!
Patsy has graciously allowed me to place this here:

Because this was the way Harriette lived, I have chosen to join
