UPDATE
The Village of Pocono Summit organized a civic club to make some improvements in the community.  In 1959, a serious fire destroyed a large garage at Kinsley's Market in the center of town.  Recognizing the need for better fire protection, the club voted to become a fire company, and on June 12, 1961, the Pocono Summit Volunteer Fire Company received its charter from the State of Pennsylvania.
Through the dedicated work of it's volunteers, and continuous support of the community, the fledgling company grew from a handful of members with one fire truck to some 40-plus firefighters operating six pieces of equipment.  The truck bays house two Class-A pumpers, one 3,000 gallon water tanker, a rescue truck with the Jaws-of-Life, and a brush truck.  The social hall, which used to house the apparatus in the 1960's and 70's, is now used for meetings, training classes, and fundraising events.
Our coverage area serves southwestern Coolbaugh Township, eastern Tobyhanna Township and includes the Village of Pocono Summit,  and the Stillwater and Emerald Lakes developments.
The scope of services provided by today's fire company is continually expanding.  Not only do we respond to all types of fires, but we also respond to motor vehicle accidents, missing person searches, all types of rescues, downed power lines, as well as other emergencies.  Our company is not made up of just firefighters and emergency responders.  We also have members who choose not to fight fires, but volunteer their time to help with the fundraising events, which are so vital to the survival of our company.
In the 21st Century, we will continue to grow and serve the needs of the community who has so graciously supported us.  We are a proud company of volunteers who realize the importance of working together.
