We both stared, though it wasn't long before I started shivering. Zac slowly moved toward the glass, and placed his hands on it. For a while, no one said anything. "He... is he... alive?" Zac almost croaked. "Oh yes, very much so," Matt assured. I saw the hint of a smile on Zac's face, which quickly gave way to shock. "But... how?" I could now see him beginning to shake. "You'll be able to talk to him later about it," Matt insisted, patting Zac on the back and pulling him back down the corridor. Troy and I followed. "For now, we're just going to let you have a little viewing time," Matt went on. He opened the door into the first room and the four of us walked in. The two other men stayed outside. Neither of the brothers had moved. Matt leant against the glass and looked in on Taylor. "This will be their type of punishment from now on," he said, as Troy sat down behind us, "you two on the other hand... If you try and pull anything like that..." Matt slowly ran his index finger across his neck. We looked in on Isaac. "You know what? They haven't given me much trouble at all," Troy suddenly spoke up. Matt glanced at him, then he looked at us and grinned. "Actually behaving ourselves are we? Perhaps you learnt your lesson in that room after all," he said. I began to back against Isaac's door, then slid to the ground. Zac glanced at Troy, obviously wondering if he could do the same thing without them saying anything. "I think Taylor needs some company," Matt suddenly said. "Isn't that the idea of isolation?" Troy raised his eyebrows, standing up. "We can bend the rules," Matt replied, taking Zac's arm. He began unlocking the door. Zac glanced at me before Troy pulled me up, and he was shoved in to join Taylor. Matt locked the door, then unlocked Isaac's. I saw him look up in surprise. Once the door was opened, Troy shoved me in, and locked it again. The window was a mirror on the inside. "Hey," Isaac began. I turned to him. "What are you in for?" he asked. "Matt thought you two could use some company..." I looked around, then went to sit next to him. "Zac's with Taylor?" he asked. "Yeah..." I replied. He sighed. After a few minutes of silence, I sighed, shaking my head. "There's something you should know about," I began. He looked at me questioningly. "I don't know if Zac's going to tell Taylor... but if he does, I don't know what'll happen to him," I went on. "That bad?" he raised his eyebrows. "Worse," I shook my head. He waited for a moment as I decided what to say. "Give me a hint," he said, when I remained silent. I hesitated, watching the mirror. "Someone we thought was dead," I looked at him. He thought for a moment, before his eyes widened. "Greg?" he asked. "No, he's definately gone," I said thankfully. Isaac frowned. "Brad?" he tried again. I hesitated. "I don't know what happened to him," I frowned suddenly. "Just please, tell me what you and Zac saw," he pleaded. I gulped. "Was it graphic?" he asked. I shook my head. "Then what?!" he was getting exasperated. I looked around the room again, then looked him in the eyes. "Mike's alive," I said. He just stared blankly for a moment, before looking away. "He alive," I laughed sadly. "But... how?" he asked, staring at the floor. "I don't know... we don't know. Matt said Zac could talk to him later," I rested my head on my hand. "How is Zac?" he asked, suddenly looking up. "I'm not sure... glad he's alive but worried at the same time I suppose," I replied. Isaac shook his head and leant back again. "Mike," he repeated. "Matt told me and Zac that this isolation is going to be your type of punishment for break outs and that from now on," I said, trying to change the subject slightly. "Just me and Taylor?" he looked up. "Maybe Amy and Angie too," I shrugged, "he said he'd just kill me and Zac." Isaac looked at the floor for a moment, then looked at me again. "Promise me you'll look after him," he said. I hesitated. "I'll do what I can, but that's not alot," I pointed out. He sighed. I looked him over for a second before he gave me a strange look. "What?' he asked. "I'm just trying to figure out a way for you to get out of that without me helping and getting in trouble," I admitted. "What would that accomplish?" he shrugged. "Well if they knew you could get out they wouldn't put you in it again," I pointed out. "True," he raised his eyebrows. I stared at him for a moment in thought. "It's weird after a while... I can hardly feel my arms," he said, looking down. "Can you move your hand into a fist?" I asked suddenly. "Almost... that's the only way I can tell my arms aren't broken," he chuckled. "Alright, I have an idea..." I began, just as we heard the door unlocking. I turned to him quickly. "Use one fingernail against another and make a bit of a dent. Use it on the cotton in the end of the arm. Once that's open you can get to the buckles," i rushed to say, only one second before Matt pulled me up, and began to push me out of the room. We met Zac and Troy on the other side of the door, and, after Isaac's door was locked again, began to make our way further down the corridor. We turned into another one, which we immediately saw held at least ten barred cells - five on either side of the walkway. As we were taken toward them, we saw Angie and Amy in the first two, across from each other. Zac was quickly locked into the second one to the right near Angie, before I was put in the one across from him near Amy. Matt smiled at me before he and Troy left. "Hello?" Amy began, as the walls between cells were concrete, and she couldn't see us. "We're ok, how about you?" i replied, sitting back against her wall. "Depends on your definition of ok, but yeah," she replied. I heard Zac sigh as I closed my eyes. I didn't know whether to tell Amy about Mike or not. I decided to leave it. She'd no doubt find out soon enough anyway. We were in the cells for more than an hour then, most of the time silent. We didn't hear anything for ages after that. Then Murray and Matt were the ones to come and fetch Zac and I. They took us back down the corridors to the first one with Isaac, Taylor and Mike. We stopped at the third door, as Matt gave Murray a glance. Matt knocked, which was followed by a soft 'come in' from inside. Murray opened the door, and shoved us in, closing it behind us. We hadn't turned. "Zac," came a voice. |
