Chapter 6 - The Maze
"I guess we'd better get it over and done with," Zac said, and we began to walk through the hedges. We made a left turn, a right, then went up to the end of the walkway, and turned left. "What was your 'talk' about?" Zac asked Taylor. "Stuff," Taylor replied. We made a right turn. "Well if you ask me, I think he's an IDIOT!" Fabian yelled the word 'idiot', because he fell down a three-metre hole in the ground! "Ow," his voice came from down the hole. "What do you mean?" Zac asked, laying on the ground, leaning over the edge. "I mean it hurt," Fabian replied. We smiled. "I meant you calling Greg an idiot," Zac explained, still leaning over the edge. Taylor joined him. "Why would Taylor help him?" Fabian replied. "How did you know?" Taylor asked. "Are you going to get me out of here or what?" Fabian yelled. "Should we?" Zac asked, looking at Taylor. "Don't toy with me, Zachary Walker Hanson!" Fabian called up. Zac and Taylor laughed. Taylor tried to reach Fabian's hands, but couldn't. He nearly fell in trying. "If you stood up, it's probably be a bit easier!" Zac yelled to Fabian. Fabian laughed, and stood up. But they still couldn't reach. "Now what?" Amy asked. I looked around. There was nothing to help pull him up. "I guess this is the first booby-trap," I said. Taylor managed to get out of the hole. "We'll have to leave him," he said. "What?" Zac asked. "What?" came Fabian's voice. "Well how are we going to get him out?" Taylor asked. No one said anything. "When Greg talked about getting through the maze, these traps must be here to stop us. Meaning that there is no way to get out of them," Taylor explained. "So they're going to catch us one at a time, I said. We all looked at each other. "At least you won't be there forever," Zac called down to Fabian. "Yeah, that's really brightened my day," Fabian replied. "As soon as we're gone, they'll probably come and get you," Taylor said, standing up. Zac stood up too. Fabian sat down. "See you soon," Amy called to him.

We came to the end of the walkway, and turned right, right, left and left. Then we went right, right, right, left, and went straight to the end. Then we turned right and left, and just before we got to the end, turned left. We came to a cage. In the cage, was a very hungry lion! When he saw us, he jumped on the side of the cage. When we saw him, we froze. "Stay calm," we heard Amy say to herself. We started to back off. "Oops..." Zac said. "What 'oops'?" I asked. "I stepped on something," Zac replied. "I think I know what," Taylor said. Then we noticed that the front of the lion's cage was slowly opening! Quickly, we turned and ran! The lion was quickly out after us. We made a right turn, followed by a left, right, left, right and a right, before we lost the lion. Then there was only one way to go. Unfortunately, it led to a dead end. "Great, now what?" Zac wasn't very happy. "We have to finish the maze," Amy said. "And how do we do that? And if we don't, one of us is dead. Plus, we have a lion running loose in here, which is probably right around the corner!" Zac shouted. Amy suddenly tripped over something, and fell into Taylor. "Are you alright?" he asked. "Yeah," she replied. Then we heard a clank. Then suddenly, a metal gate slid across the dead end. The dead end
Zac was in. It went through the hedge on the other side, leaving Zac trapped.

"Great," he said, as Taylor tried to pull it back. "Trap number two," I said. "I think that lion must have been a sort of trap too," Amy said. "I hope he starves to death," Taylor said. Amy hit him. "What?" he asked. "We happen to be animal lovers," she said. I was giggling too much to agree. "Even for something that was getting ready to tear you apart?" Taylor asked. Amy and I nodded. "I guess we're going to have to leave you as well," Taylor said, turning back to Zac. Zac moved back and sat down. "See ya," he said. Taylor, Amy and I said goodbye, then started walking back to the start of the walkway. Then we made two right turns and a left. "Oh oh," Amy suddenly said. "What?" I asked. "I trod on something," she replied. Taylor and I backed off when we heard that. Suddenly, a large metal cage fell over her! "Oh no," I moaned, and we ran back to Amy. "You alright?" I asked her. "Uh huh," she replied. "Somehow, I don't think you're going to get out of there," Taylor said. Amy sank to the ground. It was starting to get dark. "Come on, we'd better hurry," I looked at the pink sky, and pulled Taylor's arm. We turned around and ran to the end of the walkway, and turned left, then right.

Suddenly, the ground fell from beneath my feet! Quickly, I grabbed onto the edge of the ground, and held on. "Taylor?!" I yelled. He looked over the edge. "Hang on!" he called, then got down on the ground. He managed to grab one of my wrists. Then the ground I was holding onto with my other hand gave way! Taylor nearly fell over, but he was firm on the ground. Then he managed to grab my other wrist and pull me up. Soon, I was on ground level again. We looked down. The hole was way deeper than the one Fabain had fallen in. The sky was starting to turn dark blue. "Come on," I said, and got up, pulling Taylor up. "Don't you want to rest?" he asked. "I just want to be out of here before dark," I replied. "And straight back to Greg," he murmured, but didn't argue. We kept going the way we were, then made two left turns. We made it about halfway down the walkway, when I saw something sticking out of the hedge on our right side. Just before we got up to it, I realized what it was. It was a gun! Just as Taylor was about to walk in front of it, I managed to trip him. "Look out!" I yelled. He fell flat on his face, just as the gun fired. I fell down with him. "I think that was meant for you," I said to him. Then we looked up at the sound of a roar on the other side of the hedge. The bullet had missed Taylor, gone through the hedge, and hit the lion instead! We sat up. The gun had gone. "I guess that means we're going the right way," Taylor suggested, and we looked down the way we were going. We stood up and continued walking, more slowly this time though.

We reached the end of the walkway. There was a gate on the right hand side. We looked at each other, and went over to it. Taylor opened it, and went through. I followed. We were in a paddock, like the one we'd started in. There, ready and waiting, were some men, Mike, and of course, Greg. We couldn't help smiling. We'd gotten through the maze! Also there waiting, were Fabian, Zac, and Amy. Straight away, some men came to get us. The truck we'd been nrought there in was ready and waiting for us. All five of us were put in it again. This time, Greg didn't come in the back with us. We were glad though, at least we could talk to Taylor. Besides, he and I had to tell Zac and Amy wat had happened after we'd left them, and we had to tell Fabian nearly everything!
