After Action Reports  2007
Ohio Regimental Military Ball
Ok, so I had a good time at this one, for the most part.  Doug and I arrived, went to the room, and made arrangements to meet The Sharps.  I was lending Miss Carrie a gown and head ornament to wear for the evening.  We went downstairs and said hello to some old friends and took a look at the vendors.  I wasn't overly impressed with what was offered, but I do have most of my kit purchased by now so I wasn't really looking to buy.

Anyway, the Cash's joined us as well.  Yeah!  Love to see Bill and Cherie.  Around 4, Doug and I went up and got dressed for the social hour.  I visited with a few friends and took a look at many of the not no period dresses.  Yes, I was being evil.  Surpirse surprise.

At 6 we were called to dinner, so we took our seats.  We were seated with Edd, Carrie and some other CS reenactors that I didn't know, but were very nice.  After a brief presentation on the Ohio Civil War Trails Commission we began to eat.  I ordered the beef, but wasn't overly impressed with it.  It was tough and wasn't quite cooked to my liking.  (It came to me mooing) They brought dessert first, so by the time we ate it (cheesecake) it wasn't very good either.  Pooh

After dinner, Cherie and I went to the restroom so I could fix my hair.  A while later, we were called to the ball like cattle.

Yeah, I don't care for the caller they hire.  He is rude and impatient.  We did some quasi grand march, due in fact to the # of people dancing.  Now, don't get me wrong, I am glad we filled the ball room to capacity.  But you would think some of these people were dropped on their heads when they were little.

Anyway, I danced most of the dances and was having a decent time until the last set.  We pissed the dance master off b/c we were trying to help people do the Gay Gordon.  By that time I was tired, but wanted to keep dancing.  We did one called the Flowers of Edinburough.  Kinda a cool dance except for I was in the moron set.  These people were adding moves and didn't really know what the hell they were doing.  They tried to tell me what to do and I got pissed off.  After our turn as the head couple, I wanted a break, so I told Doug to hold on I was catching my breath and I was angry.  It is very hard to do a dance and do it correctly when you have people in the set who are making it up as they go.  I just wanted a chance to catch my breath and to rest.  Well, that didn't work.  He got mad because I was mad at the stupid people.  The next dance I sat out so he chased around one of the people who organze the dance to dance with them.  He knows this pisses me off becuase by the time he gets back to me for the next dance the sets are formed and the caller is starting to talk people through them.

Yeah, so afterward we went to the bar, which was the best part of the evening.  I have earned my new nickname, Sash, because I violated Edd's sash in a not so lady like way.  We were loud, laughing and having a good time.

Will I go back, I don't know yet.  I don't care for many of the folks who attend this ball.  They are rude.  I don't care for the caller, though I hear that is going to be fixed next year.  My dream is to attend a dance where I don't have to spend most of the time listening to the caller try to teach people the dances.  That is why there is a dance class before the ball.  Oh, and I want to go and not have to look at remade 1980's prom dresses and other farbdom.  Guess this ball only lives in my dreams.

I will have pictures at some point.  What's next?  Another farbdom ball:  MCRA Spring Ball
