PGCPC Statement on the Anti-War movement in Prince George Communist Party of Canada, Prince George Collective There has been a growing movement for peace in Prince George since Bush’s push for the bombing of Iraq began some time ago. This has included a rally and a march on the 26th of October, a rally on the 16th of November, a peace symposium and a March for peace on the 23rd of November. The Prince George Collective of the CPC has been at the forefront of this growing movement against the planned imperialist war on Iraq. It was responsible for the October 26th rally and march, in solidarity with the nation-wide day of protest. It also organized the rally for the 16th of November, along with the Popular Front for the Defense of Community, in solidarity with the international day of protest on that date. We were an active voice at the peace symposium, raising awareness to the connections between capitalist profits and war. And we aided PGPIRG (Prince George Information Resource Group) in the advertising of their march for peace on the 23rd of November. The P.G. collective of the CPC will continue to be a part of, and support the movement against imperialist war. We will work together will other organizations to fight against war. However, we are shocked and concerned about the lack of participation on the part of the community and other members of activist groups. The support for the anti-war movement does exist in Prince George. It can be seen everywhere we look, but its one thing to give a supportive comment, to cheer the protestors on from the sidelines, or to just smile and wave. But it is a totally different thing to get up and become active in the movement. You don’t necessarily have to be a Communist to oppose war; you just have to be a person who cares about human life. This is a call to the citizens of Prince George, to all those who read this statement, to all the armchair revolutionaries of Prince George. Get up and get our there! Active work and co-operation is necessary for change in our community and the world. To all those who have attended the anti-war events, we thank you. Our voices must be heard, we must be the one’s to make sure that they are. |
