Scava is always a big day out for the band and this year was the biggest ever with thousands lining the streets of the small village. The band paraded with 9 drummers and 28 fluters through a packed Scarva and put on our best performance of the year so far. The morning began taking our host lodge through Bessbrook and then on to Newry where the bands got to play right down as far as the bus station opposite the Canal Court. Then on to Scarva where some of the lads recieved some crushing news that they had to play on a stage when they finished parading and would not be allowed to go to THAT tent. After much huffing the band took to the stage infront of about 1,000 people playing Life on the Ocean Wave/Heart of Oak, Scottish Jigs, Young May Moon and Aces High which I think went down pretty well with the exception of Matt from Blackskull who barracked and heckled the band throughout their performance and was last seen skipping toward the beer tent. Band going excellent again on the way back to the bus and a short parade in Newry finished off a very enjoyable day which was nearly ruined by Mace shop assistant Albert's attempts to soak everyone on the bus on the way home. Haywood Way was the venue for the now annual post Scarva BBQ which I think was the best ever although I think the neighbours are not really seeing the funny side anymore. Don't want to go into too many details but activities included Cat Cricket where Nibby defeated Jim in a closely fought contest, a Cycling Trip to Brenda's organised by Albert and watching Ray, Nigel and Agnew eat all the food while everyone else starves.
