BIRTHDATE: October 21, 1963 BIRTHPLACE: Scotland MARITAL STATUS: ???? WHY HE DESERVES HIS BIG BREAK: Can you believe Catherine Zeta-Jones dumped this guy for haggy old Michael Douglas?? Charisma, intensity, magnetism, truly captivating eyes--Angus MacFadyen has it all over Michael Douglas, except of course, for his superstar status. But anybody who's seen Braveheart and Titus can tell you who really deserves it. Born in Scotland (in case the name "Angus MacFadyen" didn't clue you in), MacFadyen co-starred in a number of TV productions before making his feature film debut in some small-time Mel Gibson flick by the name of Braveheart. Playing Robert the Bruce, emotionally torn heir to the throne of Scotland, MacFadyen's subtle performance leads you to believe up until near the end of the film that he may betray fellow countryman William Wallace, only to end up taking his place by leading Wallace's soldiers to triumph over British tyranny. We at THAT GUY were quite surprised when MacFadyen was all but forgotten when the 23748 or so awards Braveheart won were given out. Since then, MacFadyen has starred in numerous "small" movies, largely ignored by mass audiences but highly praised by critics and film buffs. His real talent is demonstrated in period dramas, such as portraying the 1930's era Orson Welles in 1999's Cradle Will Rock, and appearing as Lucius in Titus, Julie Taymor's stunning adaptation of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. We predict a big-time Gladiator/Russell Crowe-style breakout for him, but MacFadyen, reported to be intensely private off-screen, may not choose that route in his career. And that's just fine with us. |
