JAMES LeGROS

WHY HE DESERVES HIS BIG BREAK:
Please, somebody save this wonderful actor before he's forced to stay another season on Ally McBeal! We don't know why it happened, but we at THAT GUY were quite disheartened to see James LeGros join the cast of the Most Annoying TV Series Ever in 2000, hanging around the unisex bathroom with Ally, Ling, the Biscuit, and the rest of the gang, but we suppose the security of a weekly TV series is a lot better than getting work in the latest Sundance Festival feature.

Actually, it's surprising that James LeGros hasn't gotten work more often in such fluffy crap as
Runaway Bride and the like, considering his looks suggest a slightly rougher around the edges Brad Pitt.  He did in fact capitalize on the resemblance in the hilarious Living in Oblivion (1995), playing Chad Palomino, a pretty boy, egotistical actor who longs to be taken more seriously.  The film received little attention from mass audiences but was a critical smash, and even LeGros's younger lookalike was reportedly delighted with the impersonation.

After kicking around in small roles in such 80's nightmares as
Solarbabies and Fatal Beauty, LeGros made his mark on the independent film scene by playing Matt Dillon's cohort in drug addiction and robbery in 1989's Drugstore Cowboy.  Since then, he's made nearly forty movies, including big budget pics like Enemy of the State and Gus Van Sant's remake of Psycho, but with more notable performances in such films as Guncrazy, Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, The Low Life (co-starring fellow THAT GUY Rory Cochrane), Floundering, and Thursday (not to be confused with Friday, starring Ice Cube).  But that Ally McBeal thing, we just don't know if we can get over that...

UPDATE: the powers that be at Ally McBeal recently announced that James LeGros will not be returning for the 2001-2002 season.  They're doing him a favor.
