WHY HE DESERVES HIS BIG BREAK:
If anyone ever plans on making a film about the tragic life of 50's heartthrob Montgomery Clift, casting should be a snap--just look at James Caviezel.  He shares Clift's soulful, almost beautiful features, and his palpable intensity on screen.

A native of Washington, Caviezel started his career with small role in relatively low profile films like
My Own Private Idaho and Ed.  His first role of real prestige was in The Thin Red Line, notable mainly because he was the only actor that appeared on screen for longer than ten minutes.  Following that was a co-starring role in the Civil War drama Ride With the Devil, and then a starring role in the underrated Frequency (2000).  In Frequency, Caviezel stars as police officer John Sullivan, who finds he has the miraculous ability to communicate with his dead father over a ham radio.  The film, which manages to combine a murder mystery with psychological drama and a story about the bond between fathers and sons, was largely ignored at the box office but became a popular video rental.

Caviezel's last two films,
Pay it Forward and Angel Eyes brought in less than spectacular profits at the box office, but high hopes are riding on the current remake of The Count of Monte Cristo, in which Caviezel plays the role of Edmund Dantes alongside fellow THAT GUYS Guy Pearce and Michael Wincott.  Maybe if that doesn't work someone can take my idea of writing The Montgomery Clift Story and give him a call...
"Why, yes, I am talking to my dead father over the radio..."
