Haley and zOmBiE^s Birthday Party

13th May 2000

Every year, I go through the same old rigmarole when it comes to my birthday. I used to share it with my ex-girlfriend (same date) and always hated this time of year. But I gotta say, thanks to some great friends, I had the best birthday since I was a kid. Lisa_, LoisLane, Kell_19, turbo, seahorse-dolphin, ^CpW and Sambucca came from interstate to celebrate with Haley and myself. It was great to have them there! Plus all of our Adelaide friends and family, it truly made a memorable 18th for Haley and 26th for me. Even though ^CpW brought the crappy Melbourne weather with him, the marquee that was erected and the tarpolins that were strung over the pergola, shielded us all from the rain and wind.
Approxiamately 100 friends and family helped us both celebrate the event in typical Adelaide party fashion. With alcohol flowing freely, food at our disposal and a severe lack of ashtrays (lol) we kicked back and danced the night away. It wasn't long before the formal part of the night was upon us, with a Happy Birthday sing along and a brief few words by me, Haleys family gathered to here Aunty Robyn say a few words. The speeches were entertaining, and quite touching (especially Zar's speech!!! now that really touched me!) and we all sang happy birthday to Haley as if we were all at the cricket! Oi Oi Oi.
All was going swell, until around 11pm when a member of the constabulary chose to create a bit of a fuss by segregating the males from the females. All us guys were rounded up into the beer tent and locked out for approxiamately 10 mins while the officer proceeded to show the ladies a few tricks he had learnt on the beat (rofl). Apparently, he broke a few laws himself, such as indecent exposure and causing a riot! Haley was treated special by the officer though, coz it was her birthday rofl.
After the excitement of that died down, the party got into full swing. Some chose to grab the microphone, from the pint-sized disk jockey (who was tall enough to be just a jockey!) and serenade themselves Karaoke style, some quite simply chose to hang around the beer keg and criticise everyones ability to pour the perfect glass of West End draught. There were people strewn around the loungeroom, in the same way a teenager's room looks, some were actually resting while others chose to release the contents of their stomachs in multi-coloured buckets. Meanwhile, in the bathroom, it was exactly the same picture (minus the buckets). The carpet in Bronnie's beautiful house looked the way my tongue was beginning to feel, fuzzy, yukky and dirty.
At about 3am people started leaving, revealing the true state of the house. Crikey people are pigs! I finally hit the sack at about 6.30am (well it wasn't the sack, it was actually the front seat of my car).
Parting note: If my real family read this I'd like to say: Thanks a f*cking lot for making the effort to celebrate with me. To my so-called friends who didn't rock up! (Jenny excluded coz she was sick!) F*ck you all too!!! I now know who my truest friends are!
