Junior Faith 06

The main topic of the last section in our readings book was called faith and apologetics.  Before we started this chapter, I had no idea what apologetics meant, but I soon found out that it is the argument of faith through usage of science and philosophy to try to make Christianity more believable or reasonable. The chapter then goes on to present those arguments, and this was a completely new thing for me to learn about, which made the chapter more interesting.

The first thing I would like to remember is the fact that apologetics really does give strong evidence to the idea of Christianity.  Through carefully thought-out arguments, the book was able to make me realize that it is foolish, maybe even ignorant to believe that we are the highest life form, and that there is no higher being that we were created by.

Next I would like to remember the arguments from religious experience that the book brought up. The book made me start to realize that while some could consider religion and faith to be “fall back plans,” (which I somewhat agreed with before the chapter) it is not such a bad thing to have that fall back plan, and we all need something to keep us going in life, and religion or faith can easily do that for humans.

Finally, I would like to remember the ideas from the movie “Jesus, a Radical Portrait.”  The video showed Jesus as more of a person, but a person who rejected societal values and in a way was countercultural.  He was a man who spoke out against the evils and wrongdoings of His society, and I totally support that type of thing.  It makes me start to think of other people like Bob Dylan and Bob Marley who I idolize for doing many of the same things Jesus did.  This gave me a new better outlook on Jesus as a person, rather than some all powerful mighty being.

To me, Jesus would just be a very down to earth, laid back guy.  Not someone who would catch your eye in a crowd, but if you were ever able to hold a conversation with him, He would amaze you with his wisdom and make you feel so enlightened.
