What is a Dream?
A series of thoughts, images and
emotions occuring during sleep.

Synonyms: daydream, fantasy, nightmare,
phantasm, vision, illusion


Daydream: A pleasant visionary usually wishful creationof the imagination.
Fantasy: Imaginative ficiton featuring esp. strange settings and grotesque characters.
Nightmare: A frightening dream that usu. awakens the sleeper.
Phantasm: A delusive appearance, a ghost; the pigment of the imagination.
Vision: Something seen in a dream, trance or ecstasy; especially a supernatural appearance that conveys arevelation.
Illusion: A misleading image presented to the vision.



The Symbols of Dreams And Their Meanings



Strange Reflections: This is the classic dream to represent identity crisis, the sudden sense of not knowing who we are.

Masks: These represent the way that we present ourselves to the outside world and even to ourselves.

Mazes: Represents the complex defences put up by the conscious ego to prevent unconscious wishes and desires from emerging into the light.

Falling:An image that emphasizes the dreamer has climbed too high in personal or professional life and may now be ready for a fall. Sign of anxiety.

Drowning: Represents the dreamer's fear of being engulfed by forces hidden in the deepest reaches of our unconscious minds.





Being Chased: Indicates that aspects of the self are clamouring for integration into consciousness.

Birds: Symbolizes aspects of relationships; blackbirds- represent jealousy; thieving birds- suugests threat to a relationship from an outside party.

Feathers: Represents a gift, expressing the desire to show warmth or tenderness to someone close to the dreamer.

Fire: Represents a new beginning or disruptive emotions- perhapsthe flames of passion or envy.

Hotel: Represents permanence, a point of transition in a relationship, or a shift or even a loss of personal identity. They may also suggest the price that has to be paid to sustain a relationship.




Red Rose: Symbol of love.

Velvet or moss: Symbolizes of a more generalized longing for the comforts of nature, or for gentleness, sensitivity or innocence.

Whips: Represents the dreamer's awareness of power, domination and obedience in relationships.

Cups: Represents for love and truth.

Empty purse: Represents the loss not only of a loved one but also of security that the old relationship offered to the dreamer.


A loved one receding: Symbol of bereavement.

Buddha: Serves to remind the dreamer of the need to find the stillness at the centre of his or her own being.

Virgin Mary: Represents a supreme and selfless love or compassion, and the power that rules the heavens through grace and sanctity rather than through authority and strength.

Eyes: Clues to the dreamer's state of spiritual health. Bright eyes often suggest a healthy inner life.

Hair: Symbolizes vanity; conversely, the ritual act of shaving the head indicates a renunciation of the worldly ways. Early dream interpretators suggested that to dream of going bald predicts an imminent loss of the heart. A strong beard can stand for vitality, while a white one can signify for wisdom.


Finding an egg: Discovering an egg, a baby or a newly hatched bird, or any image of birth, can indicate the emergence of new possibilities in the dreamer's life, and may also stress the need for careful nurturing.

The Divine Child: Representation of perfection, re-birth, and the innocence of primal wisdom. Symbolizes the dreamer's own spiritual potential, ever-present beneath the dross of worldly concerns.

Cloak: Symbol of illicit concealment and secrecy, of mystery and the occult, or of protective warmth and love.

Jewels: Suggest a valued aspect of the dreamer or of the other people. Gold and diamonds typically represent the incorruptible true self, rubies denote passion, sapphires truth, emeralds fertility; buried treasure denotes divine wisdom hidden in the depths of the collective unconscious.

Giants: Represent recollection of childhood in adult dreams while in children's dream it may represent present realities, such as the frightening side of the father. Giants may also symbolize the care and protection that the strong can give to the weak.
