Promises
-
As evening's sun sinks into hues of crimson clouds,
And the first star of the evening appears in the night's sky,
Memories of another lifetime flash across my mind --
Promises of another existence before my mortal birth.
Faces, people, memories of my former friends
Stream gently as the night's first shooting star.
-
What promises did I make before traveling to this distant land?
What old friends will cross my path to become my friends again?
Are we not destined to meet each other here below;
and renew old friendships from heavens gates before?
Our promises to each other draw us 'cross the miles --
Bringing us together to become friends on earth anew.
-
As the sun fights it's battle with the night and finally succumbs,
A multitude of stars appear, revealing friends from long ago.
Friends who are yet to travel and those who've come before
Gaze on us below -- cheering, crying, pleading for us;
As we strive to understand our mission and live true
To the love we shared and the promises we made Before.
