State-sponsored attacks on minorites

India violator of religious liberty : US lawmaker

WASHINGTON : John Doolittle, a Republican lawmaker, criticised India on the floor of the house, saying he was distressed over the way minorities were being treated in India.

Speaking on the Floor, he said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the parent organisation of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has published a booklet, "Save Hindus - Attacks and Laws", contains "guidelines for framing charges, false as well as genuine, against minorities."

Doolittle informed his congressional colleagues that the booklet has been in circulation for three months, according to the article.

The lawmaker then went on to castigate New Delhi, saying, "if India cannot learn religious tolerance, it doesnot deserve support of the free countries of the world."

Doolittle asserted, " It is time to declare India a voilator of religious liberty and other human rights until the situation improves."
