Universal Soldier (1992)

Cast:Jean-Claude Van Damme,Dolph Lundgren,Ed O'Ross,Ally Walker,Jerry Orbach

Van Damme and Lundgren were Vietnam soldiers who killed each other in the war when Dolph slaughters two Vietnamese teens who he dubs as traitors  which causes Van Damme to act out during the struggle they kill each other, 25 years later they are reanimated and they continue their rivalry as androids  in this exciting actioner

Universal Soldier was the movie that made Jean-Claude Van Damme a star. Mainly because it played up to it's star pairing, in which Lundgren was chosen, which is pretty good since they are in roles they were born to play..Robots.  Van Damme and Lundgren  are indeed fun to watch in action, even  if the film doesn't really make a lot of sense in it's premise. Emmerich manages to add enough firepower to make this one enjoyable even for those who usually don't like the stars in this movie. The one flaw is the underuse of O'Ross and Orbach but Universal Soldier has so much momentum this hardly grinds the film down, the big fightscene at the end is quite exciting. Sure Universal Soldier is a straight up dumb actioner but it has so much energy one can't help but sit back and enjoy the whole thing.. D.Roland Emmerich***1/2
