Undercurrent (1999) Cast:Lorenzo Lamas,Brenda Strong,Frank Vincent Lamas stars as a disgraced cop who is set up to take a fall for the murder of a mobster, framed by his partner and seduced by the mobster's wife, Lamas is now running not only from the mobster's son (that set up the hit) but also the police who think he did the murder, Lamas must now clear his name. Lorenzo Lamas movies have become a genre of their own, and surprisingly, his last 3 effort I have seen have been low on action, Undercurrent however is one of Lamas' better movies mainly because it benefits from stylish directing and a better then average script which elevates this above most Lamas fodder. Indeed the erotic thriller works well enough even if it doesn't quite make the film worth putting down money for. The reason I think Undercurrent is hit and miss is because it alternates between being very dull to being suspenseful. Indeed had more focus been placed on Frank Vincent and Lorenzo Lamas we may have had something here. Still for what it is, Undercurrent is slightly better than most erotic thrillers in the genre. Lorenzo Lamas himself still can't act, but fans of his won't mind and although this is low on action, Undercurrent has a few moments of interest to be worth watching on cable... D.Frank Kerr **1/2 |
