| Tightrope (1984) Cast:Clint Eastwood,Genevieve Bujold,Dan Hedaya.Alison Eastwood Clint Eastwood stars as Wesley Block a cop who investigates the murder of prostitutes in which he has a personal connection with however when the killer starts taunting Block, he finds a connection with the killer in that it's his kinky taste meanwhile Block falls in love with Beryl Thibodeaux(Bujold) who gives him any real hope in his grim surroundings. Eastwood has abandoned his usual rough and tumble screen presence in favor of a more sensitive and more appealing character who indeed is a cop with great weaknesses. Sure It'll always be cooler to see Eastwood just wipe out the scum with his usual strong-arm tactics, but the story here is quite captivating (If somewhat ridiculous) and the cast makes it work thanks to a suspenseful final reel as well as gripping direction which never lets you out of the action. Eastwood is great as usual, and Tightrope is compelling viewing for those who are looking for something slightly different from the norm.. D.Richard Tuggle *** |
