| Terminator 2:Judgement Day (1991) Cast:Arnold Schwarzenegger,Linda Hamilton,Edward Furlong,Robert Patrick Schwarzenegger returns as the cyborg who is this time sent back to protect John Connor from the T-1000 a liquid metal cyborg who is virtually invincible in this effects driven sequel that makes for a very excellent follow up to the classic. Although some argue that this is better than the first, in my opinion it's not.The first one depended more on expert storytelling and a pace that wouldn't quit. Terminator 2: Judgement Day runs at two hours and fifteen minutes and there are times when the movie could've used a little trimming. That being said Cameron provides excellent percision in the action which indeed supplies T2 with enough energy and verve to be one of the best movies released in the genre. The story is well put together and the dialogue is written with a good ear for detail. Indeed Schwarzenegger and Furlong share some very effective scenes which establish Schwarzenegger as an unlikely yet credible father figure. Of course this is all secondary to the action sequences but once again the chase scenes, special effects and really everything else is done with so much style that it's impossible for the action fan not to enjoy it. It's only in comparison with the first movie that one starts realizing that the story isn't quite as sharply told and the pace is slightly off. However when compared to everything else though, Terminator 2 is one of the highlights of the genre and is certainly well seeing. (Again) D.James Cameron***1/2 |
