Superman (1978) Cast:Christopher Reeve,Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman,Margot Kidder,Ned Beatty Without a doubt one of the greatest superhero movies ever made, this stunning epic finds America´s most popular hero doing battle with Lex Luthor while adjusting to his powers and maintaining his secret indentity, fun humor and suspenseful actionscenes make this one a classic. To be fair some of the beginning is completely overblown but once Superman comes to earth, the movie really takes off and becomes highly enjoyable. Reeve makes the role his own, and with the upcoming rumors of the new Superman movie, one can truly not imagine anyone else in the role. Truly Superman's appeal extends not only to comicbook fans but anyone, really. Because Superman is well acted, contains spectactular special effects, good natured humor, suspenseful actionscenes, a fast pace and romance, truly Superman is one of the few movies to have a little something for everyone. Superman works because the character driven script never takes itself seriously, yet avoids becoming too comicbookish and emerges with the right balance of how a superhero movie should be made. Aside from a few minor flaws such as the silly opening,, Superman is a masterpiece.. Followed by an equally enjoyable sequel, but from then on it all spiraled downhill. D.Richard Donner **** |
