Shogun Assassin (1980) Cast: Tomisaburo Wakayama,Masahiro Tomikawa,Kayo Matsuo They just don't make classics of this breed anymore, one of the goriest samurai movies ever made really hits a note of brilliance during it's first two minutes by building an excellent atmosphere around the surroundings and giving it a story that's captivating but that's only the half of it the movie has better action then a lot of actionmovies today.. and yet there is more appeal to just the violence and story it could be the excellent acting (Even though dubbed the fascial expressions are never over the top) and some good dubbing that makes this a martial arts classic. I will go as far as saying it's better then "Enter The Dragon" and "Once Upon A Time In China" this is just an excellent movie that left me with a lot of admiration for the artistic and enjoyable swordplay. While defintley not for the squeamish this movie is still great and derserves to be on the list of best movies ever made. The movie is invincible in the action department and offers a heart wrenching story about a father and his son who become hardened to being assassins as they set out to wipe out the masters of death. Jet Li made a remake of this called "Legend Of The Red Dragon" while decent in it's own right does not even come close to the original. Although there are countless cheap kung fu flicks on your self this is one not to miss. **** |
