| Replicant (2001) Cast:Jean-Claude Van Damme,Michael Rooker,Catherine Dent Jean-Claude Van Damme stars as a genetic clone created to assist a cop (Rooker) nab a serial killer who likes to torch women in this surprisingly compelling actioner which features some excellent acting and suspenseful actionscenes. While the ending may be a let down this film provides enough entertainment and action to be considered Van Damme's best since Sudden Death. Replicant provides everything you might expect from Van Damme and stuff you might not, which not only provides the top notch action but also some really effective acting. Van Damme is surprisingly appealing as the clone and somewhat effective as the serial killer. Rooker of course is good (As usual) and the film is redemption for Van Damme for the embarrassing Universal Soldier: The Return. Sure a few plotholes stick out but Ringo Lam delivers a movie superior to generally anything else on the rental shelf.D.Ringo Lam *** |
