Pray For Death (1986)

Cast:Sho Kosugi,James Booth,Kane Kosugi

Kosugi stars as a ninja warrior who takes on a group of mobsters who kidnapped his kids and killed his wife,  of course causing him to come to terms with his past, he must now wipe out the mobsters, who will be praying for death..

Energetic comicbook ninja movie has Kosugi in great form and  is a delight in the action scenes. Although it would have benefited from more action
PFD still entertains, if this ninja movie has one flaw, it is how the plot is structured, the whole overall movie revolves around a priceless neckless, which the mobsters are trying to get their hands on, and despite the fact that this is a "Ninja-flick" the silly plot seriously grinds the movie down.

However
Pray For Death more then makes up for the plot, with tons of excellent actionscenes and an overall darker mood to it, indeed it is probally one of the bloodier ninja movies to come out in the genre, infact even when compared to now. However they just don't make this kind of movies anymore (Infact neither does Sho Kosugi) and therefore this is worth a look to martial arts fans, not to mention people who remember when action movies were made for men, and not toned down by the censors, As it stands however Pray For Death shapes up to be Kosugi's best movie to date, and remains a classic of the genre. Best ninja movie ever made, don't let anyone tell you different.  D.Gordon Hessler***1/2
