Out Of Reach (2004) Cast:Steven Seagal, Matt Schulze Just when you thought Seagal couldn't get any worse...Here comes Out Of Reach a hideously dull actioner which features him as an ex-CIA agent who sets out to nail a prostitution ring after his teenaged pen-pal mysterously disappears. After a dumb yet surprisingly enjoyable Belly Of The Beast, Seagal furthermore proves why his straight to video movies are the worst things on the shelf anyone can rent. Sadly the ridiculous premise is probably the best thing about this muck. It's bad enough that the story is too lame to be fun in the first place (Come on, a pen pal service? What's next?, a kidnapped little league team?) but that Seagal is arrogant enough to even let it cross his mind that the audience would want to gawk at his awful acting abilities. Throwing Seagal in an actionflick with no actionscenes is like throwing in Shannon Tweed with no nude scenes. It's what he's known for and after this atrocious effort i'm wondering if Seagal should just retire. Fellow head-bashers Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme are still kicking ass effectively, let alone Jackie Chan and Jet Li. So if Seagal isn't gonna bother even doing any fighting, we as viewers shouldn't be watching. Yet Steve has 5 movies in pre-production, so hopefully he learns his lesson. In that we don't pay to see anything but action with his films, if Seagal thinks otherwise, we recommend he gets his head examined. Out Of Reach is hopeless filmmaking at it's most lazy, that despite a few okay production values, is bland, dull and overall just plain horrible. Avoid. D.Po-Chih Leung * |
