Maximum Risk (1996)

Cast:Jean-Claude Van Damme,Natasha Henstridge

Van Damme plays a french cop who finds out he had a twin brother that was killed. He sets out to find out who killed him. The plot isn't very clear although the directing is stylish and some of the action is well staged but this isn't as good as Ringo Lam's Hong Kong work. Although the movie remains entertaining enough to be worth watching.

Maximum Risk is a movie that tried to play against Jean-Claude Van Damme's typecasting and in doing so Maximum Risk feels more like a drama then an action flick with starring  Jean-Claude Van Damme.  This doesn't however work 100%, As the whole Russian mobster and corrupt cop cliches all surface to take away the momentum of the film but certainly this is one of Van Damme's better efforts.  Although Van Damme and Henstridge have somewhat of a chemistry, they hardly have the erotic chemistry that the film would hope they would.  Its interesting though that fans of Van Damme were disappointed by the film noir approach and of critics are always mean to B.movies however it's  a solid actioner in it's own right. . Also noteworthy as the  last decent theatrical movie Van Damme made. D.Ringo Lam ***
