Hard Boiled (1992) Cast:Chow Yun Fat,Tony Leung Chow Yun Fat stars as a police officer who defends hostages held up in a hospital, in which CYF's main target mobster has taken hold of, also CYF's partner is an ex-cop in John Woo's take on Die Hard which is more violent and bloody(not surprising is it It's The guy who created the "Heroic Bloodshed" genre) then even his mobster epic A Better Tomorrow. Hard Boiled remains one of the greatest police actioners ever made and the showdown alone is intense enough to earn this a four star rating. An truly jaw dropping movie which walks the fine line between mindless actioner/hard hitting drama which doesn't take time to get the bodycout rolling. For example to express the overall intensity of the actionscenes found in Hard Boiled let's just say that the beginning shootout could be a climax for a Rambo sequel as Hard Boiled is equally grisly and graphic., John Woo shows no restraint making it for those who have a strong stomach and not for those who have just eaten. As far as movies go even the Death Wish movies (Some of them cut for R ratings) are tame compared to this, As far as it goes for fans of the genre I just don't see how one can go wrong with a flick like Hard Boiled a movie that basically has it all in terms of what fans of the genre look for. Those looking for a good intorduction to John Woo's filmography, should look no further.. D.John Woo **** |
