Falling Fire (1997)

Cast:Michael Pare, Heidi Von Palleske,Mackenzie Gray

Michael Pare stars as a soldier who finds himself the only aboard a spaceship who can thwart terrorists who plan on using an asteroid to destroy earth, as it turns out Pare's wife has also been kidnapped by the clutches of the terrorists, but Pare doesn't know who the terrorist is on board and  time is running out, in this interestingly surreal take on
Die Hard.

Michael Pare has always been one of the more underrated actors in the B. movie market, he always gives good performances and usually his B.movies have quality to them which brings us to
Falling Fire a movie so off the wall with it's Die Hard antics, that it becomes quite entertaining. That's not to say the premise is all that good, it's infact highly far-fetched but the cast and director try so hard that we easily buy what's on screen, indeed the thought of being able to actually channel an asteroid to actually hit earth is certainly daft but once again the movie works because it's so imaginative. On the special effects side we have what is without a doubt some of the best special effects for such a low budget movie, certainly this is a well made actioner which actually develops an atmosphere that captivates plus the script itself has more texture then a movie of this caliber has, the villains are actually given screen time to explain their point of view and for some reason it all works. Falling Fire may not be the best Die Hard clone ever made, but it has enough surreal moments as well as enough character development to be worth watching. D.Daniel D'Or ***
