Down Twisted (1988) Cast:Carey Lowell, Charles Rocket,Linda Kerridge,Thom Mathews,Courteney Cox,Norbert Weisser,Nicholas Guest Yet another Albert Pyun clunker about a woman who gets mixed up in all kinds of intrigue when an mercenary (Rocket) tries to fight off corporate thugs after a priceless artifact, of course the merc and his whiny tag-along fall for each other, unfortunately you'll be bored by it all. Obnoxious and crude, Down Twisted is somehow even more terrible than Pyun's atrocious Radioactive Dreams, which at least had the oddball novelty of Michael "American Ninja" Dudikoff doing a slapstick routine.. The problem with Down Twisted is, that for an adventure movie it really has no adventure to depict. At least lame Raiders Of The Lost Ark rip offs such as Firewalker moved from one point to another, Down Twisted for a long time doesn't even go anywhere. Infact for a few moments, time actually stops and your brain actually starts to drain, infact you swear that you've been abducted by aliens and that they're stripping you off any memory of what's going on. Indeed if not for my notes, there's no way I could've even got the plot right. The few novel actors (At the time) are Thom Mathews and Nicholas Guest and they for the most part are wasted, giving the cast a few cool names to flesh out the lame cast. Rocket and Lowell in particular have zero chemistry and therefore this movie stops dead in it's tracks with it's adventure. The actionscenes themselves are lumbering and cheap rip offs of Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Basically Down Twisted is as terrible as what you'd expect from Albert Pyun (Greywizard and I seem to use this term a lot.), although one suspects that even he was off his game a little here. Movies like Down Twisted work only with a budget. There are many movies that can work on low budgets, such as Science Fiction and Martial Arts movies which depend on novel ideas and good fight choreography, however the adventure movie is hard to pull off on a low budget because than it must rely on a good director and feature plenty of imagination to make up for the overall low grade sets. Down Twisted is not even close to being good, infact the movie is stupid and utterly awful.D.Albert Pyun * |
